Präzision-Palooza: A Rose by Any Other Name…
A sobering interesting story about partnerships, precision, and the surprisingly firm kind opinions of large understanding corporate legal departments on the topic of local car shows.
You may have noticed that the event formerly known as Porsche-Palooza is listed on the 2026 calendar under a different name. That name is Präzision-Palooza. Präzision is the German word for precision. You are welcome to pronounce it however you like.
Here is the back story.
For the past three years, we have had the privilege of working with Porsche North America on the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge. (You know I have a soft spot for air-cooled cars.) It is a genuine partnership, and one we are proud of. This year, that collaboration expanded. We are now working with Porsche's Corporate Event Team — the group responsible for their largest national events. That is a meaningful step, and we are thrilled about what it means for both events.
Their legal team, however, was considerably less excited about our continued use of the word Porsche in Porsche-Palooza. We received a politely but unambiguous message on the subject. In the interest of keeping our legal costs manageable and our relationship with Porsche North America intact, we… of course… acquiesced. We would never intentionally violate copyright law, and we are deeply grateful for their diligence in bringing this oversight to our attention… and have set a reminder to assure that it doesn’t unintentionally happen again next year.
That said, a few things worth knowing about Präzision-Palooza:
The event is identical to what you have always known — same cars, same community, same spirit
The Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge remains a central part of Artomobilia weekend, supported by Porsche North America and hosted at Motor District.
The Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge cars will be featured and we’ll offer a People’s Choice on favorites.
National and local Porsche clubs are still the backbone of the display
Judging is still done by club members who know the cars — and the owners — best
The name is new. The Porsches are not going anywhere.
And all the Porsches will be the only cars on North Rangeline Road…
We have been told that Präzision-Palooza is difficult to say quickly after two beers. We consider that a feature rather than a bug… and I suspect we’ll find out during our awards ceremony.
This is still one of the most thoughtfully curated Porsche gatherings in the Midwest. The community that has built it deserves that, regardless of what we call it.
Registration for the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge and Präzision-Palooza is now open.
